King Faisal defender David Oppong Afrane has expressed his disappointment following his team’s relegation from the Ghana Premier League. The Isha Allah outfit had a challenging 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season, which ultimately led to their drop to the Division One League.
King Faisal finished in the 17th position in the top-flight league, resulting in their relegation. Afrane shared his feelings of disappointment, especially as a member of the team that suffered the unfortunate outcome.
In an attempt to overturn their relegation, King Faisal FC lodged a protest with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after their match against Tamale City FC, which took place on May 6 at the Aliu Mahama Stadium. Unfortunately, their protest was dismissed by the GFA.
The protest was based on allegations that Tamale City FC had fielded an ineligible player, specifically Isaac Mensah/Jireh Kojo Nissi. King Faisal FC sought a victory by default, which could have provided them with crucial three points to bolster their chances of avoiding relegation.
However, with their protest unsuccessful, the club is taking further action by petitioning the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). They hope that CAS will review the ruling made by the GFA Disciplinary Committee, which resulted in their relegation to the Division One League.
The disappointment within the team and the determination to challenge the relegation decision demonstrate the significance and impact of the outcomes in Ghanaian football.
