Medeama winger Derrick Fordjour has expressed his team’s determination to make a significant impact in the upcoming CAF Champions League campaign. The Yellow and Mauves earned the right to represent Ghana in Africa’s prestigious club competition by emerging as winners in the recent Ghana Premier League.
This marks the first time in the history of the Tarkwa-based club that they will be competing in the elite football competition, having previously participated in the CAF Confederation Cup in 2014 and 2017.
Medeama has been drawn against Nigerian side Remo Stars in the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League. The draw ceremony took place at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
While acknowledging the challenge they will face, Derrick Fordjour emphasized the team’s determination to make Ghanaians proud on the continental stage. The opposition teams are expected to possess quality, adding pressure on Medeama, but they are focused on excelling and making their mark in Africa.
Medeama’s most recent participation in CAF inter-club competitions was in 2016 when they reached the group stages after eliminating South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns in the playoffs.
The first leg matches of the first preliminary round are scheduled to take place from 18 to 20 August, while the second leg encounters will be held from 25 to 27 August. Should they advance, they will face Guinean giants Horoya AC in the second preliminary round, and the ultimate goal is to progress to the group stage.
Medeama’s ambitions are high, and they aim to put up a strong performance to bring glory to Ghana and showcase their capabilities in the CAF Champions League.
