Ghanaian playwright Uncle Ebo Whyte recently shared advice for individuals in the creative sector, urging them not to solely rely on monetary support from potential sponsors for their content and events.
As the Chief Executive Officer of Roverman Productions, he believes there are alternative forms of sponsorship that creative brands should explore. Instead of always asking for financial contributions, he suggests considering other resources that companies and brands can offer.
For example, some sponsors may not have the funds to provide but could offer products or services in support of the event. A hotel, for instance, might not be able to provide money but could offer event space, refreshments, or rooms for participants. The key is to be open to different types of support beyond monetary contributions.
Uncle Ebo Whyte shared these insights during his keynote address at the Showbiz Roundtable event, organized by Joy FM. The theme of the event was “securing sponsorship for events and creative content,” and it featured panel members from various sectors of the creative industry.
The event also had other notable speakers, including Bright Ladzekpo, the CEO at PH Media Ghana Ltd, and the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mark Okraku Mantey, as the guest speaker for the 3rd edition.
In summary, Uncle Ebo Whyte’s advice encourages those in the creative sector to be open to diverse forms of sponsorship beyond financial support, thereby creating more opportunities for collaboration and partnership with brands and companies.
